Our journey

Our journey began in September 2020. We aimed to discover a new green solution based on the scientific Boron-CLS-Bond® technology. This was initiated against the backdrop of an increasing emphasis on emission reductions within the maritime sector, evidenced by the significant number of environment-related treaty instruments from the International Maritime Organization.

A key milestone was reached in January 2023 when MLT, in partnership with SGS, conducted compatibility and miscibility tests using high-quality CLO base oils and our BCB technology. The results of these tests were positive, as detailed in “Study I" Marine Lubrication Ltd - Compatibility and Miscibility study of Fresh Marine Lubricants with MotorSilk Marine Additive" report.

Building on these promising findings, we collaborated with a supportive client to undertake a comprehensive 15-month sea-going trial. The objective of this trial was to thoroughly evaluate the performance benefits and impact of our technology on SFCO, EEXI, and engine wear, both before and after deployment, in a fully operational vessel.

The results

The results, as detailed in “Study II” – Marine Lubrication Ltd – Practical Assessment in Marine Diesel Engine with MotorSilk Marine Additive, obtained in October 2024 are encouraging. While the improved sustainability benefits exhibited some variability, they were consistently positive in terms of both performance and cost-savings. Notably, we observed an average of 27% reduction in SFOC. These findings underscore the effectiveness of our technology solution in conjunction with marine engines and oils, its ability to reduce wear and friction, its significant potential for emission reduction and overall improvement in engine performance and other crucial sustainability metrics.

We believe these results highlight the valuable role our Boron-CLS-Bond® technology can play in addressing the immediate challenges of emission reduction and operational efficiency within the Marine Industry, while also providing a cost-effective solution.
